Meanings:
1 a : to change the rank or position of (someone) to a higher or more important one
Examples:

1 British : to move (a sports team) to a higher position in a league
Example:
<The team have been promoted to the First Division.>

2 : to help (something) happen, develop, or increase
Examples:

3 : to make people aware of (something, such as a new product) through advertising to make (something) more popular, well-known, etc.
